Target has a pack of erasers in their back-to-school section right now
that I found to be very nice for carving. The package of 2 regular
erasers (one pink, one flourescent green) and 4 pencil-top erasers is
0.59 at my store. The green carves particularly nicely. Sure can't
beat the price!
